Sleeping (and exercising) more increases your work performance

If you want to get more work done or improve the quality of your work, you might want to consider getting more sleep. Or start exercising more. Or both. This is suggested by a Japanese study published in the Journal of Public Health.

Sleeping (and exercising) more increases your work performance

Study
Researchers from the University of Tsukuba analyzed data from 12,476 Japanese employees. The researchers had received the data from the Japanese insurer Tokyo Marine. The researchers had approximately the same number of men and women in their database.

Because the employees had completed questionnaires about their way of life, the researchers had an idea of ‚Äč‚Äčtheir lifestyle. The employees also answered a question about their performance at work. Based on the answer to that question, the researchers had given the employees a score that indicated how much work the study participants could get done - and how good the quality of their work was.

Results
The strongest association between work performance and lifestyle that the researchers could find related to the amount of sleep. If the study participants reported that they were not getting enough sleep, they were significantly more likely to report poor performance at work.

Another, but less strong, factor was exercise. Employees who exercised less than an hour per day were significantly more likely to perform poorly at work.

By improving sleep, training becomes more effective, athletes become faster, slimming attempts are more likely to succeed and the probability of a long and healthy life increases. Hence our interest in this meta-study.

Sleep better with chamomile
If you sleep reasonably well and are looking for a natural remedy that will improve the quality of your sleep, chamomile supplementation may be an interesting option.
