Monolaurin for bodybuilders

Last week we bored our readers with a post about the antiviral effects of monolaurin. Nice for when SARS CoV-2 comes back, we thought. If bodybuilders want to protect themselves against covid with monolaurin, they might experience an interesting side effect. During their workouts they might feel their muscles respond better. Monolaurin provides more 'pump'.

Monolaurin for bodybuilders

Patent
At least, that's what we read in an American patent from 2017. It states that monolaurin is a good source of glycerol - and glycerol promotes the 'pump' in muscles during and after strength training, possibly because it attracts water.

There are already supplements for bodybuilders with glycerol on the market. These often contain glycerol mono-stearate. The patent suggests that monolaurin is a better source of glycerol. After all, lauric acid is smaller than stearic acid, which means that 1 gram of monolaurin provides more glycerol than 1 gram of glycerol mono-stearate.

Dosage
The patent mentions human doses of 0.5 to 10 grams of monolaurin per day. The dose preferred by the authors of the patent is 2.6 grams per day. Users can divide this daily dose over several intakes, but that is not strictly necessary.

Pump
The patent mentions a small experiment with 6 volunteers. They reported that their muscles felt bigger 30-60 minutes after taking the supplement. This sensation is said to have lasted for 24 hours.

Trigonelline keeps you fit and strong as the years go by
If you are older but still want to stay strong and fit, anything that increases the concentration of NAD+ in your cells is interesting.

Bodybuilders' muscles also become stronger with urolithin-A
A year ago, Ergo-Log reported that supplementation with urolithin-A, a substance that is created in the body when the microflora in the intestines cuts ellagitannins in fruit into pieces, makes muscles stronger in inactive people.
