Vitamin C supplementation removes lead from the body
If you spend a lot of time in traffic and are forced to sniff copious amounts of lead fumes, it might be an idea to take a supplement with one gram of vitamin C every day. In high doses, vitamin C removes lead from the body.
Study
In animal studies, vitamin C can protect lab rats against lead poisoning to some extent. Researchers from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston wondered whether vitamin C also has the same effect in humans. [Anat Cell Biol. 2013 Dec;46(4):239-45.] [Toxicol Lett. 1990 Feb;50(2-3):337-48.]
The Americans divided the men into 3 groups. These groups received a daily tablet with 0, 250 or 1000 milligrams of vitamin C per day for 4 weeks.
