A capsule of shilajit a day makes bones stronger
Supplementation with shilajit, an oily preparation originating from the Asian high mountains, is not only interesting for men who want to increase their testosterone levels. According to a small trial published in Phytomedicine, shilajit also has an anabolic effect in bone tissue.
Study
The women in the control group took a placebo every day for 48 years.
Women in the 2 experimental groups took 250 or 500 milligrams of shilajit daily. The researchers used PrimaVie, a Natreon product. [natreoninc.com]
Natreon sponsored the trial. The company supplied Pingali and Nutalapati with the supplements and equipment to analyze their test subjects' blood.
Results
Mechanism
At the same time, shilajit increased the concentration of osteoprotegerin. Osteoprotegerin is a protein that prevents receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand from interacting with NFkB.
Finally, supplementation with shilajit led to a decrease in MDA, a marker of free radical damage, and an increase in the endogenous antioxidant GSH. The concentration of NO increased sharply due to supplementation.

Conclusion
"Dietary supplementation is a useful tool to incorporate potentially beneficial dietary components that are not sufficiently consumed in the habitual diet."
"This research highlights an easily implemented dietary modification in the form of a supplemental dietary ingredient with established safety to attenuate elevations in inflammation, oxidative stress, and bone loss in postmenopausal women."
