Vitamin D works even better against eczema in combination with vitamin E
Vitamin D supplementation reduces eczema by about thirty percent, we reported a few days ago. In combination with supplementation with vitamin E, this protective effect may become considerably stronger.
Study
The researchers, nutritional biochemists affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences, divided the test subjects into 4 groups. There was a placebo group, a vitamin D group, a vitamin E group and a group that received both vitamin D and vitamin D.
The trial lasted 60 days.
The subjects who received vitamin D took 40 micrograms of vitamin D3 daily. The subjects who received vitamin E took a cheap supplement containing 265 milligrams of synthetic alpha-tocopherol every day.
Results
However, the combination of both vitamins reduced the SCORAD score by 64 percent. That was significantly more than the decrease in the placebo group.

Mechanism
Adults need about 15-20 milligrams of vitamin E every day, but large groups do not achieve this. The average daily intake is probably closer to 6 milligrams. [Int J Vitam Nutr Res. 2015 Dec;85(5-6):261-81.] In the trial we discussed above, supplementation may have compensated for a deficient intake of vitamin E.
