In this dosage, L-tryptophan improves your mood
A daily dose of 1-3 gram L-tryptophan makes your attitude, emotions and mood more positive. This is apparent from a Japanese review study by Japanse that appeared in the Journal of Dietary Supplements in 2020.
Study
In the trials used, the researchers looked at the psychological effects of supplementation. Tryptophan is a precursor of serotonin. A moderate increase in serotonin activity in the brain has positive effects on mood.
Results
Tryptophan did not make sure that test subjects felt happier, happier or optimistic, but did improve the way in which test subjects processed emotions. Through tryptophan, for example, some users felt less inclined in difficult situations to look for a fight, they were less sensitive to stress and interpreted events more positively.
The instructions that proteins with a relatively large number of tryptophan improved the mood were less strong than the instructions for a psychological effect of supplements with free amino acid. The researchers estimate the most effective dose on 1-3 grams per day, preferably spread over 3 moments a day.
Too high doses
Conclusion
"In order to accurately estimate the amount of L-tryptophan required to obtain the preferable effect, further studies need to be conducted with appropriate settings of the intake period, intake frequency, and intake method."
