Bioavailability of quercetin phytosome is 20 times greater than that of regular quercetin
Virologists fear that the coronavirus will make a comeback this fall, so interest in supplements that may protect against the pesky bioentity is growing. Quercetin is such a supplement. Unfortunately, the bioavailability of quercetin is low. An Italian producer of ingredients for the supplement industry has solved that problem.
Phytosome
Similar structures also arise in the digestive organs, especially if fats are also present. They are crucial for the absorption of a broad spectrum of active substances.
By prepackaging quercetin in this way, Indena hopes to increase the absorption of natural active substances. Indena has applied the same technology to curcumin and green tea extract.
Study
One time the supplement was a capsule with 500 milligrams of regular quercetin, another time a capsule with 250 milligrams of quercetin phytosome and another time a capsule with 500 milligrams of quercetin phytosome.
Results
A good way to determine the bioavailability is the area under the curve [AUC]. You can deduce from the table below that the bioavailability of quercetin phytosome is a factor of 20 greater than that of regular quercetin.
