50+ | A diet with nuts keeps your reaction speed up to par
Eating nuts regularly will likely reduce your chances of cognitive decline after age 50. And it also seems that nuts can help keep your reaction speed up to par after your fifties.
Study
Reaction speed is a biomarker for cognitive abilities; the faster a person can react, the better their cognitive skills are usually.
At the same time, the researchers knew the diet of the study participants.
Results
When the researchers compared the study participants who ate nuts once a month or less with the study participants who ate nuts more than once a month, they saw that the latter group responded more quickly. At least, in the age group past fifty.
Mechanism
"Since hypertension and diabetes are risk factors for cognitive impairment, it is possible that nuts consumption can improve cognitive function."
"Second, nuts can reduce the A-beta-induced oxidative stress, cell damage, and levels of inflammation. [...] Moreover, nuts consumption can reduce the risk of cardiometabolic dysfunction and maintain endothelial function."
