Chlorella, an excellent source of carotenoids

Eggs, citrus fruits, leafy vegetables and cabbage contain carotenoids, a group of bioactive substances about which far too little is known. Studies suggest that carotenoids such as lutein, beta-carotene and zeaxanthin may increase longevity and reduce the risk of cancer and dementia. Chlorella supplements are an underestimated dietary source of carotenoids.

Acetylcarnitine dispels chronic fatigue

Study
Researchers at the Portuguese Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnologica gave 11 healthy men a diet containing minimal amounts of carotenoids for 2 weeks. The researchers then gave the test subjects 6 grams of chlorella in the form of capsules once.

The Portuguese monitored the blood of their test subjects for 3 days. During that period, the men continued to eat a low-carotenoid diet.

You can see the composition of the chlorella used below.

The researchers used a product from the Portuguese company Buggypower. [buggypower.eu] Buggypower sponsored the research.

Results
After a single intake of 6 grams of Chlorella, the concentration of lutein, beta-carotene and zeaxanthin in the blood of the test subjects was elevated for three days.

Chlorella also contains selenium and iodine. However, the researchers found no or almost no effect of supplementation on the men's selenium and iodine levels.
