Blackcurrant for faster sprints

Supplementing with a black currant extract is interesting for athletes who have to make endurance efforts, we wrote recently. It also appears that blackcurrant extract is useful for athletes who have to perform several high-intensity movements in a row.

Study
Researchers from the University of Chichester in the UK gave 13 male and athletic students a supplement containing 300 milligrams of black currant extract every day for 7 days. The supplement provided 105 milligrams of anthocyanins daily.

The British used a CurraNZ, a product of Health Currancy, the study's sponsor.

On another occasion, the students were given a placebo.

On the last day of the supplementation period, the students had to make 6 sprints of 19 seconds on a treadmill. Between sprints, the students ran for 15 seconds at a relatively low intensity.

Results
If the students took the supplement [NZBC], they covered an average of 10.8 percent more distance in their sprints than if the students had taken a placebo. In 4 subjects - the best responders - that distance even increased by 15 percent.

After the sprints, the students had more lactic acid in their blood if they had taken the blackcurrant extract than if they had taken a placebo.

Mechanism
The researchers suspect that black currants ensure that muscles are better able to cope with lactic acid.

Conclusion
The above could mean that blackcurrant supplementation is of interest to athletes in sports with many series of explosive movements.

Combine caffeine with taurine for a faster sprint
Athletes who consume a large amount of caffeine daily do not benefit very much from caffeine supplementation.

A few milligrams of nicotine makes athletes sprint faster
You do not hear much about it, but quite a few athletes take a dose of nicotine for important training sessions and competitions.

Two weeks supplementing with betaine | More muscles, faster sprint
If physically active students take 2.5 grams of betaine every day for two weeks, their muscle mass increases by 1.5 kilos and their ability to move explosively after an exhausting exercise session improves significantly.
