Aronia inhibits difficult-to-treat breast cancer
The addition of a surprisingly small amount of aronia to your daily diet may inhibit difficult-to-treat triple negative breast cancers. This is suggested by an animal study published in Frontiers in Oncology.
Study
14 weeks before the Slovaks injected the mice, they changed the composition of the food of two groups of laboratory animals. They put dried powder in it, taken from the peels of aronia berries.
They then monitored the growth of the tumors for 19 days.
The researchers did not use extracts. That is why we are writing about this animal study. Oncologists usually use highly purified extracts in this type of research, preferably in high concentrations. But in this animal study, the Slovaks used a whole food - and in a reasonable dose.
If the mice in one experimental group had been adult humans, they would have consumed 2.5 - 3.5 grams of aronia powder daily. That amounts to half a teaspoon. Mice in another group received ten times that dose.
Results
Mechanism
At the same time, aronia inhibited hormones that ensure the construction of blood vessels, which must supply the tumors with oxygen and building materials.
