Aromatherapy with bergamot oil enhances positive feelings
Inhaling bergamot aroma makes you feel more active and think better of yourself. At the same time, aromatherapy with volatile bergamot oil also makes you more nervous. Perhaps extremely useful if you have to finish a heavy and perhaps also monotonous job.
Study
In 2017, a pilot study was published in Phytotherapy Research in which the researchers experimented with 57 visitors to a mental health clinic. On one occasion the visitors had to spend fifteen minutes in a waiting room in which diffusers spread water vapor on the other occasion [Control]. On another occasion, the diffusers dispersed volatile bergamot oil [Active].
The volatile oil of bergamot or Citrus bergamia consists of almost seventy percent limonene and linalyl acetate
Results
Exposure to bergamot aroma made the subjects feel more positive. They felt 49 percent more 'proud' and 43 percent more 'active'. Bergamot aroma, however, also made the subjects 60 percent more 'nervous'. Under some circumstances this may not be a positive thing.
