At this dose, arginine has a prosexual effect in men | Trial
Supplementation with 2 grams of arginine per day has a positive effect on the sexuality of depressed women, we wrote last week. According to an Italian trial, published in the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation in 2022, arginine also has a prosexual effect in men. Although the dose the Italians needed for this is a bit higher than 2 grams.
Study
The men in the experimental group took a dose of 2 grams of arginine 3 times a day with a meal for 3 months. In total, the men used 6 grams of arginine per day.
Results
The scores in the experimental group did not change. In the arginine group, they rose from 20 to 24. This means that their moderate disorder changed into a mild disorder. [Table]
In some of the men in the experimental group who initially had a moderate disorder, the blood flow even normalized completely. In the men with a more serious disorder, arginine had no impact on the blood flow.
In the experimental group, the HDL level rose from 57.9 to 60.8 milligrams per deciliter. So it rose by 2.9 points. That effect is small, but positive.
In the placebo group, the HDL dropped by 3.1 points from 58.6 to 55.5 mg/dl milligrams per deciliter. That is a drop of 3.1 points.
Conclusion
"Additional studies would be suited to further corroborate the encouraging results presented by the current study, and to further widen the field of arginine supplementation's clinical applicability."
