Q10, vitamins B2 and B3 mitigate cardiovascular risks of tamoxifen

Both pharmacological bodybuilders who want to lower their estradiol level (or increase their testosterone level) and women with an estradiol-sensitive type of breast cancer use the anti-oestrogen tamoxifen. A side effect of tamoxifen is that it worsens cholesterol levels, which in the longer term increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Supplementation with Q10, vitamin B2 and vitamin B3 reduces this side effect.

Study
Biochemists from the University of Madras in Tamil Nadu published a human study in 2007 in which they analyzed the blood of 4 groups of women.

One group of women was healthy. The second group had breast cancer but had not yet received any medication. The third group of subjects had breast cancer and was given 20 milligrams of tamoxifen daily for 90 days. A fourth group of subjects received 20 milligrams of tamoxifen, 100 milligrams of Q10, 10 milligrams of riboflavin and 50 milligrams of niacin daily for 90 days.

Results
The concentration of the 'worst cholesterol' VLDL was greater in the blood of the women who received tamoxifen than in the blood of the healthy women and the untreated women with breast cancer. Supplementation with Q10 and vitamins B2 and B3 normalized this concentration.

In addition, supplementation with Q10 and the B vitamins appeared to lower LDL levels and increase HDL levels.

Conclusion
"A significant increase in [...] VLDL-C has been observed in the tamoxifen treated breast cancer patients, with complete lipid and lipoprotein derangements in untreated breast cancer patients", write the researchers.

"Co-administration with Co-Q10, riboflavin and niacin significantly decreased the tamoxifen induced lipid abnormalities."

This could mean that supplementation with Q10 and vitamins B2 and B3 reduces the cardiovascular risks of long-term use of tamoxifen.

A healthy sleep rhythm makes antioestrogens more effective Oleocanthal, the anti-oestrogen in olive oil GLA supplement helps tamoxifen work better

A healthy sleep rhythm makes antioestrogens more effective
Antioestrogens probably work better if your sleep rhythm is better, and you produce more melatonin in the evening and at night.

Oleocanthal, the anti-oestrogen in olive oil
It's found in vierge or virgin olive oil: (-)-oleocanthal, a compound that has anti-carcinogenic and anti-oestrogenic properties.

GLA supplement helps tamoxifen work better
Supplementation with GLA can reduce the number of estradiol receptors in cells, and in this way increase the anti-oestrogenic effect of tamoxifen.
