Overactive bladder? Maybe you're getting too much caffeine
If people over 60 have to urinate annoyingly often, this doesn't necessarily mean they have an overactive bladder or, if we're talking about men, an enlarged prostate. Maybe they just need to cut back on their caffeine intake.
Study
Using questionnaires, the researchers measured how much caffeine the study participants consumed daily through products such as coffee and tea. They also asked how often the study participants had to urinate daily.
Results
In the group with caffeine intakes of more than 300 milligrams per day, 20 percent of the study participants had "severe symptoms" of overactive bladder. In the other groups, this was about 10 percent.
Conclusion
"The average number of overactive bladder symptoms in people who consume less caffeine per day does not differ from that in healthy people."
