Natural eggshell membrane (NEM) | Working out while protecting your joints
You want to work out, but you wonder if that is good for your joints. According to a study conducted by researchers at ESM Technologies, a supplement manufacturer, natural eggshell membrane supplementation can prevent an exercise program from being detrimental to your joints.
Study
NEM contains collagens, hyaluronic acid and several hundred different proteins. The manufacturer of NEM, the American ESM Technologies, paid for the study.
Results
During the experiment, the concentration of C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type-II collagen increased in the urine of subjects in the placebo group. The more C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type-II collagen is in the urine, the more cartilage the body breaks down.
However, the concentration of C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type-II collagen decreased in the urine of the subjects in the experimental group.
Conclusion
"The ability to recover quickly from exercise-induced discomfort (both pain and stiffness) could lead to more frequent exercise and may ultimately reduce the rate of exercise discontinuation."
"Although not a sensory response, the knowledge that one's joint cartilage is also being protected from damage due to exercise should further improve one's inclination to exercise and continue exercising."
