Q10 and selenium supplements halve chance of fatal cardiovascular disease
The day before yesterday we wrote about a Swedish human study in which daily supplementation with 200 mcg selenium and 200 mg Q10 raised IFG-1 levels. The same combination of supplements halves the chance of dying from a heart attack, heart failure or other cardiovascular problems the Swedes announced in 2015 in PLoS One.
Study
Results
The Q10/selenium combination also protected the participants who already suffered from cardiovascular disease. The figure above shows that among the participants who had already had heart attack the supplementation halved the chance of them dying.
And the Q10/selenium combination also had a protective effect for the participants who had heart failure.
Conclusion
"However, the mechanism explaining the persistent effect remains to be elucidated."
"Since this was a small study, the observations should be regarded as hypothesis-generating."
