Ginger, a herbal anti-diabetic drug

Supplementing with astaxanthin turns walking into bodybuilding
People who are in the pre-stage of type-2 diabetes, who do not yet need insulin or other medicines, will become healthier if they take 4 capsules daily with a ginger extract. According to researchers from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, ginger improves cholesterol and insulin sensitivity in this group.

Study
The researchers divided 37 adults with a faltering insulin and glucose metabolism, who did not yet use medication and were usually quite fat, into 2 groups. For 12 weeks, the subjects in the experimental group took 4 capsules each day, each containing 500 milligrams of dried ginger root extract.

Subjects in a control group took placebo capsules.

The researchers used a ginger supplement from the Iranian Green Plants of Life Pharmaceutics. This supplement consisted of 10.5 percent of 6-gingerol, 1.6 percent of 8-gingerol, 2.6 percent of 10-gingerol, 19 percent of 6-shogaol, 2.5 percent of 8-shogaol and 6 percent of 10-shogaol.

Results
Ginger supplementation increased QUICKI and reduced the subjects' HOMA-IR. This means that their sensitivity to insulin increased.

The improved insulin and glucose household due to ginger supplementation probably caused the cells to absorb more glucose. That could explain why the concentration of triglycerides in the blood of the ginger group decreased.

When the experiment was over, the test subjects in the ginger group had lost nearly 6 kilos. The test subjects in the other group lost was just over 2 kilos. However, this difference was not statistically significant.

Conclusion
Researchers in Iran have demonstrated the antidiabetogenic effect of ginger in other small human trials. In most cases the subjects received 3 grams of ginger per day, [Complement Ther Med. 2014 Feb;22(1):9-16.] [J Complement Integr Med. 2015 Jun;12(2):165-70.] 2 grams in other cases [Int J Food Sci Nutr. 2013 Sep;64(6):682-6. ] [Int J Endocrinol Metab. 2017 Aug 27;15(4):e57927.] or 1.6 grams per day [Int J Food Sci Nutr. 2014 Jun;65(4):515-20.].
