Fenugreek extract Testofen doubles sexual activity in over-forty males

If men over forty take 600 mg of the fenugreek extract Testofen every day, their sexual activity doubles. Australian researchers report this in The Aging Male. Testofen boosts testosterone levels by ten percent, and that explains the pro-sexual effect say the researchers.

Study
The researchers gave 56 men aged between 43 and 75 a daily dose of 600 mg of the fenugreek extract Testofen for a period of twelve weeks. Testofen is produced by Gencor Pacific, the sponsor of the study. Another group of 50 comparable men were given a placebo for twelve weeks.

Before and after the supplementation period the men completed a questionnaire that measures sexual behaviour, the Derogatis Interview for Sexual Functioning-Self Report [DISF-SR]. The researchers also analysed the men's blood.

Results
The men who had been given the fenugreek extract reported statistically significantly more sexual arousal and sex drive after twelve weeks. The researchers found no significant changes in the men who had been given a placebo. The figure below shows the data for the experimental group only.

The men who had taken fenugreek woke up in the morning with an erection twice as often as the men in the placebo group – and they also had sex twice as often. By the way, the sexual frequency of the subjects was not stunningly high.

Mechanism
The supplement boosted the concentration of free testosterone by ten percent, as the figure above shows. Click on the figure to see the data from the placebo group too.

Conclusion
"In conclusion, this extract of Trigonella foenum-graecum seed was shown to be safe and effective, reducing symptoms of possible androgen deficiency, improving sexual function and increasing serum testosterone in healthy middle-aged and older men", the researchers wrote.
