Animal study | Thyme oil increases testosterone levels
Supplementation with thyme oil increases testosterone levels. Well, at least in laboratory animals. The human equivalent of the doses that Egyptian researchers gave to rabbits is the same as what you will find in thyme oil supplements.

Study
The researchers, who are affiliated with South Valley University, gave various groups of male rabbits food for 2 months in which they had put increasing concentrations of thyme oil.

It's difficult to calculate, but we estimate that if the rabbits had been adult humans, they would have been fed 50-150 milligrams of thyme oil daily.

There are supplements on the market, usually intended as alternatives to antibiotics for relatively harmless stomach complaints, that contain such amounts of thyme oil. We do not know to what extent the thyme oil of those products differs from the thyme oil that the researchers used.

Results
The supplement increased the animals' testosterone levels.

Thyme oil also increased the fertility of the rabbits. The motility and vitality of their sperm cells increased.

Side effects did not occur, according to the researchers.
