Rhodiola rosea may be interesting for martial artists, team sport athletes and TV game participants. This is suggested by a human study published by Polish physiologists at the Jozef Pilsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw in the Journal of Sport and Health Science. According to the Polish research, supplementation with Rhodiola rosea increases your reaction speed.

Study
The researchers divided 26 male students into 2 groups. For 4 weeks, one group received a placebo. The other group other received 600 milligrams of Rhodiola rosea extract daily. That dose was in 3 capsules.

The researchers used a Rhodiola rosea supplement from Naturell. The extract was standardized to 3 percent rosavins.

Naturell did not sponsor the study. The university of the researchers financed the study.

Results
Before and after the supplementation period, the researchers determined the students' reaction speed by putting them in front of a screen. The students had to keep their hand on a sensor. When the screen turned yellow, the students had to remove their hand from the sensor as quickly as possible and press a button.

Supplementation with Rhodiola rosea [RR] increased the reaction speed. The speed with which the students removed their hand from the sensor increased significantly [A1]. However, supplementation had no influence on the speed with which the students, after they had taken their hand off the sensor, were able to press the button [A2]. Due to the first-mentioned effect, Rhodiola rosea increased overall reaction speed [A3].

Conclusion
"We found that chronic Rhodiola rosea ingestion can improve some parameters of psychomotor performance in young, healthy [...] men", the researchers write.

"However, these effects seem not to be related to changes in cortisol release or antioxidant activity of Rhodiola rosea extract. The exact mechanisms responsible for the effects of chronic Rhodiola rosea ingestion in healthy persons require further investigation."
