More Q10, less fatigue | Metastudy
Supplementation with Q10 helps with chronic fatigue complaints. The higher the dosage, the greater the effect.
Study
The dosage used varied from 30 milligrams of Q10 per day to 500 milligrams of Q10 per day. The shortest trial lasted 4 weeks, the longest 24 weeks. In a number of trials the subjects were healthy. However, in most trials they had been diagnosed with a condition or disease, such as obesity, heart failure, fibromyalgia, MS or ME.
Results
When the researchers distinguished between research with healthy subjects and subjects with a disease, they saw that Q10 reduced fatigue only in the latter group. You can see this in the second figure below.
Relevant factors were the amount of Q10 that the subjects received and the duration of administration. The higher the dosage and the longer the duration of supplementation, the greater the reduction in fatigue.
[By the way, there are indications that with an intake of more than 200 milligrams of Q10 per day, the body's own production of Q10 may decrease. It may be wise, if possible, to take no more than 200 milligrams of Q10 per day.]
Mechanism
The researchers refer to research among people with chronic fatigue [Neuro Endocrinol Lett. 2009;30(4):470-6.] and depression. [Neuro Endocrinol Lett. 2009;30(4):462-9.]
